3 Ways to Get Your HVAC System Ready for Spring
With spring in bloom in Wildwood, FL, it is time to get your heating, ventilation and air conditioning ready for warm weather. Most manufacturers recommend HVAC maintenance in the spring for the air conditioner and fall for the furnace. A licensed contractor will examine and calibrate each element of the HVAC system.
Clean the Air Filter
One of the best ways to prepare for spring is to clean or replace the air filter. Cleaning filters can reduce energy usage by up to 15 percent. Filters keep pollutants from entering the system. If coils become coated with dust or grime, they cannot release heat. This overtaxes the compressor, eventually causing a system breakdown.
Have an HVAC Maintenance Checkup
A professional contractor will inspect the entire system:
- Calibrate thermostat.
- Lubricate all moving parts.
- Check electrical wiring and connections.
- Check refrigerant levels.
- Inspect ducts for leaks or poor joints.
- Clean drip pan and condensate lines.
- Clean or replace air filter.
- Clean coils.
- Evaluate airflow and pressure.
Attending to problems as they arise helps prevent untimely breakdowns.
Selecting a Contractor
A licensed HVAC contractor will have the training and experience to repair, maintain and install all types of HVAC systems. Look for a company with NATE-certified technicians. NATE is the industry standard for technician HVAC certification in core competencies and specialties.
Ask for references, and call them. What guarantees are offered? Would the person hire them again?
The contractor should come to your home and evaluate your heating and cooling needs based on the specific characteristics of your property, budget and indoor comfort requirements. They should provide written estimates for all work and define guarantees and warranties on equipment and labor. Ask about professional affiliations. Make sure they are licensed in your state.
